How to Display Facebook Fan Count in Text

How to Display Facebook Fan Count inTextWebcomics.com (http://www NULL.webcomics NULL.com/home/2010/4/22/the-facebook-like-button NULL.html) told us how to add a Facebook Like button to our web pages, but what if you wanted to display how many people liked you without using their default, and in my opinion, very boring template?

Hongkiat.com (http://www NULL.hongkiat NULL.com) has a quick tutorial on how to display the number of fans you have in text (http://www NULL.hongkiat NULL.com/blog/how-to-display-facebook-fan-count-in-text/). Because it’s outputting in text and not locked into a plugin, you can style it to look however you want with CSS, javascript, or whatever else you happen to use. You do need to move a couple files and code snippits around, but it’s mostly copy and paste so it’s not a hard technique to wrap your head around. How you use it after that is up to you.

Daily Inspiration

The blog Abduzeedo (http://abduzeedo NULL.com) is more geared for design than comics, but this tidbit spans multiple art mediums. As part of their blog they include Daily Inspiration; a once-a-day collection of strange, creative, or just plain interesting images and videos that help get the creative juices flowing.

You can subscribe to their RSS feed (http://feeds NULL.feedburner NULL.com/abduzeedo) (which will catch all of their posts,) or if you’d like to see just their Daily Inspiration submissions, you can go to http://daily.abduzeedo.com ( http://daily NULL.abduzeedo NULL.com) to see them all on one page.

Here’s a trick Dave (http://underlingcomic NULL.com/) clued me in on in our latest study group session, and it’s one of those things where I do not know how I lived without it. It’s a simple that works for all versions of Photoshop, CS and above. Read the rest of this entry »

WSG: Aussie?

There has been some inquiries into starting an Australian/New Zealand group. (Though there’s nothing stopping anyone from eastern Asia and Russia from being included as well.) If this is something you would like to have started, speak up and we’ll make it happen!

WSG Banner Submissions!

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, there is a big blue box at the top of the page. A placeholder really, waiting to be relieved by a proper banner. When faced with the question of what singular banner could symbolize such a diverse group such as ourselves, an answer revealed itself:

Singular?

I am opening up the floor for any and all members for banner submissions. From the list of submissions the page will pick a random one each time a page loads, so that each click displays something different. Requirements are simple,

  • be a 670 x 162 pixel jpg, gif, or png,
  • and has to have our name and/or url displayed.
  • Including characters from your own work is welcome, but please don’t include any names or urls other than that of WSG, there are other places you can plug your comic. :P
